BIO
I am a Mexican self-taught interdisciplinary artist. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the Superior Fashion Center Edith Martin in Jalisco, Mexico, with a full scholarship, I began my creative career in the fashion industry, with my own label where I spent several years developing a strong foundation in design, materiality, and visual communication. Over time, however, I felt a growing need to expand beyond the constraints of the industry and pursue a more personal, value-driven form of expression. This shift led me to transition into fine art, where I could explore ideas more freely and align my work with my moral and creative principles. Eight years ago, I moved to Los Angeles from México with the intention of fully committing to and expanding my art practice within a broader cultural landscape.
My work has been included in the AltaMed Art Collection, and I was selected as a contributing artist for the Lakers in the Paint Grant for 2024–2025. I am also part of the Public Artists in Development Program (PAiD) for 2025–2026 as a Public Art Apprentice, an initiative created and managed by the Civic Art Division of the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture. Additionally, I have had the honor of completing a commissioned project for the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles.
STATEMENT
My practice is rooted in storytelling and shaped by my culture and heritage. I create work that resonates with viewers and fosters a sense of visibility and representation, centering people of color, especially women of color, as a primary vehicle for expression. Through these depictions, I explore a spectrum of empowerment and vulnerability. Having grown up in Mexico in a house full of plants and animals, I am deeply inspired by the relationship we have with the physical materials of our planet’s surface, both emotionally and physically.
I use figurative elements, symbolism, color, texture, and composition to communicate my perspective on contemporary Mexican culture, which remains a central source of inspiration. I am also inspired by the intersection of fashion and fine art, which informs my interest in texture and color. While oil paint is my primary medium, I have begun experimenting with materials such as epoxy clay, resins, and cold wax to expand my expressive range and enhance the tactile quality of my work. Through these approaches, I aim to evoke cultural continuity and personal identity, capturing both enduring tradition and contemporary innovation.
